Re: What I've been tellin' you for years!

Hey BA,  roll back to the nineties and early 2000s  years with the  bean and . corn prices,  were you part of the "haves" or "have nots" d getting  line sheets from elivator to take to the Farm Socialist Agency  to collect money provided by the" haves."    Was that anything less than stealing or taking away from the "haves"  ?

Right, he just says to gut the programs and give vouchers and very soon there won't be any programs.  Look, I have no argument that these programs--Medicare and Medicaid and to a lessor degree SS--could be run more efficiently and that is what the Affordable Care Act is trying to do.  Problem is that when humans and money are in the same room, there will be problems.  Drs going to nursing homes and charging medicare for foot surgery on someone when all they did was trim their toenails or pharmacies charging 10 times more for something for nursing home client than it costs.  Obama has said that tighter control over these sorts of things will begin to happen and that is a good thing but just like guns, you will never stop all of them but some is better than none!

Re: What I've been tellin' you for years!

Here`s the BIG differences, Hobby.  Today 50% pay federal INCOME tax, back then the burden of government was carried by more people, however "then" and "today" 100% of the citizens of the US have the cheapest and safest food supply on the planet...if that wasn`t true you could bet Canuck would be setting the record straight Smiley Wink

The farm programs were sold to the public as a policy to keep Grant Wood`s "American Gothic" alive...that was NOT the real reason, because food is and always was cheap, but "American Gothic" was dead in 1993, although some of us are yet to be buried.

Today there are LESS farmers in the program, government farm spending is DOWN. Can you say that about other government programs?????  If I had my druthers, there wouldn`t have ever been a "farm program", however there would be more farmers in business, grain/livestock prices higher and LESS big shots.  But if you are going to play Poker you have to play Poker, you can`t play using the same rules as Gin Rummy.

0bamacare and tons of other gov`t programs are only designed to get MORE receipients on the dole and to increase expense to the 50% that currently actually do pay federal INCOME tax.

Re: What I've been tellin' you for years!

I supose there are less farmers, with the govt welfare support going to bigger farms forcing   young farmer out like the one in my area who lost his land to a larger farm by upping  the rent bid..  .Even the 1000 acre farms are not safe.   A while back on marketing a man was looking for advice on corn sales.  Aclky plant offered 7.50 and with that bid he claimed he would net $800.00 a acre . I'm sure he owned the land   I told others farmers they must be netting well over $500.00 or more a acre or why farm it rent to thse big farms.no expence no labor thats better than even the govt no risk farm programs,........ just get rent  all up frout

Re: What I've been tellin' you for years!

Hobby, I have had alot of farmers tell me they have netted alot of money off alot of acres. But $800 off every acre of corn????   Oh, I don`t doubt they say that, but the way things would have to line up to do that would get close to the odds of evolution being solely responsible for the creation of the universeSmiley Happy

Well, last yr would`ve been about the only yr  you could`ve done it with corn, you`d have to have gotten 200ish bu/ac and sold it off the combine for $7.50ish, probably corn following beans or the yield hit of "CoC", extra N, smart-stack seed, extra tillage would raise your costs.  You would have to "donate" the use of your owned land to your fish story.  But yeah if you own land free and clear north of highway 18 and west of I-35 you can do amazing things.

You would have had to went through some tough times in the 90`s and early 2000`s to get to this point where you are reaping this bounty, so if someone is "netting $800/a", good for them they deserve it.

This yr will be good yet, but next yr is a crap shoot. With this crop ins, if you have a 200 APH and go in 80% you`re guaranteed 160 bu @ $5.65 or a whisker over $900/a gross income.  You can forward contract for fall @ <$5.50, maybe before you combined the `12 crop you could`ve got $6, but who would stick their neck out far?  Some big shots make their money selling their crops 2 or 3 times, well that`s pure speculating, anyone can do that.

The last 3 yrs a landowner probably was better off having their land custom farmed over renting it out, renters can be hard to deal with sometimes.  It seemed like a rent price would be agreed on in the fall with the landlord feeling a little guilty that he charged "too much", only to feel "taken" in the spring when the grain prices for fall came out. If you don`t like the prices, just wait awhile, they`ll change Smiley Happy

One of the best posts you've made in along time, 20. I would almost believe you've seen the light, because the Ryan budget is nothing more than wishful, Ayn Rand, bull$hit. It's not logical nor resonable.
