On the repubublican side
They have a gal named Kelly running in the
Democrat side. Well a I lean a little in
The Democratic side a little, but feel you vote
For the person, not the party.
Well Kelly had an ad running​ this morning...
We needed to spend MORE on schools, and
MORE on other stuff.
We are already at 45% or more state budget
For schools !!

I don't like kobatch....but I dont know if we can
Afford Kelly

Education has gone nuts...for grades k thru 6
You do not need a master's...but what do we
Do now....we do cost share so you get master's
Some schools pay 100%....then when you get
Master's, you pay is much higher...
New law should be made...no school should
Have a travel bus...should not be traveling over
100 miles to play a game or 150 miles to
Wrestling.
Computers...$450 models from Walmart....$399
Laptops from Walmart also.....
Local district paying $1500...

As a person with several health issues, this is
Critical to me personally. Since Trump's little
Friend wants to be like trump, I could see

In this case, while not thrilled with more
Taxes (including sales tax)...I personally
Would have to vote for the democrat.

It was Ed55, and once again that is not what I stated, I said that there is no way that I would vote for Kobach if he won the primary, which of course still stands.  I did not say that I would vote for his opponent, I said there is a small chance that I would consider her once I do some research as I had never heard of her until she won the primary.

The D & R that I was pulling for in the primaries both lost so I don't care which one wins, I just know I would not vote for a disaster like Kobach - I hope that clears it up for you.

Now I do agree with elcheapo that KS spends too much money on schools, especially on administrators & structures, I also believe we need more consolidation of schools, but these are just my opinion without a lot of "insider" knowledge.

Cheap , is Kelly the incumbent? If not, she may be for the increase but it was put in place earlier without her vote. They also said that their plan to increase the amount collected. You probably have some repubs skating on paying on time which would cover the increase to the schools!

I'm not certain that all of this is Democrat vs Republican.  Schools are a sacred cow because people believe their kid is special, facts to the contrary.  In addition teachers are a powerful union and vote as a block.

In our district our school has a +$14000 per student cost.  We have a gold plated school, so much so that I joked while it was being built that the delay was caused because the gold plating was on backorder.  People didn't laugh, they believed it.

Iowa education used to be top in the nation, now it's not.  As a parent of exceptional kids* I know that the school wasn't reason.  We educated them beyond their class assignments.  When they went to college they were disappointed to find kids from other systems had been exposed to more subjects in greater detail.

*One has  a masters and 2 bachelor degrees the other graduated #1 in his university class at a state university.
