What do MI, MN, and NW NY

have in common?

They are all adjacent to Ontario and have the highest US COVID rates.

Only speculation at this point but Ontario is bad.

Get them more vaccine.

I wouldn`t throw Canada under the bus for the Democrat run states shortcomings on handling Covid.

MN has done much better than CovidKim's Libertarian Death Kamp.

MI somewhat better- a lot if you take out the first wave hit.

True even of NY in that regard.

Re: What do MI, MN, and NW NY

I would not blame them for our surge in numbers.

Our Premier and his government were lax in locking down when things started to increase, too worried about the economy and people's 'rights' to stop the spread.

they did that last year too when they told people to go away and celebrate the school break when covid cases  were starting to ramp up in North America.

they tend to make a decision after the need to do so is plain to everyone rather than just the medical people who advised them not to open up a few weeks ago and to shut down tighter a week or so before they finally had to admit it needed to happen,  yesterday .

Re: What do MI, MN, and NW NY

Appears to be part and parcel of the same thing- mix political pressure to open up and people anxious to do things + a northerly climate in Feb/Mar keeping people indoors + a more infectious variant well seeded and........

The seeding occurred Feb-Mar- unfortunate that people couldn't have been a little more patient. Places that got farther ahead of the curve with vaccination before the variant was dispersed should fare much better.

But there will still be regionalized hotspots.

nQx isn't blaming us for your surge in numbers. He blaming you for our surge in numbers.

Re: What do MI, MN, and NW NY

Speculation in both directions among epidemiologists. I'm not sure what all occurred in ON but the outbreak of B117 in Ann Arbor that shut down the UM basketball team for a while was the first big heads up I was aware of. I think that did trace back to some egghead traveling from England.

Doesn't really matter except the Ontario side is now much more of a threat to everyone owing to far less vaccination. Or, MI is to them- they'll have to shut down very hard but MI is done fighting it that way.

On the bright side (for you), the more ominous story may be the P1 outbreak in BC. There's a way of figurin' whereby we could blow this whole thing yet. In which case oligarchs and dumb white people might get to run everything after all.

In case you haven't noticed nQx white people are the ones running things now. And the ones most at risk are blacks because they have to produce an ID to get the shot.

Re: NYW NY, "Democrat-run states", I don't know about ...

I don't know about MI & MN but Erie county, NY aka Buffalo isn't Democrat.  It's so republican, they recently overwhelmingly re-elected a republican congressman convicted of a serious felony.

That part of the state is pure trump country, BA, or rsbs could go there and feel right at home.

For the whole past year, they have had a serious problem with the virus that seems to be related to their attitude.  Both the people and the local governments there have resisted every recommendation from the state government and as a result has had some of the highest rates of disease & deaths anywhere.

Unfortunately as the British MP famously reported in regards to the Irish Potato Famine- "a million dead and hardly a good start."
