Re: What do you think is the best strategy

You may have a point there, sam. I thought maybe a discussion without all the animosity could be productive.

So many are pushing for austerity and that is likely to produce more unemployment rather than less. Tax breaks for the job creators are not creating jobs.

Irronic ally, I think wage suppression is causing us more damage than anything. Corporate profits high, wages low and corps and their stockholders don't want to pay taxes. Why incentivise corporate profits if they are unwilling to create jobs or pay taxes.?

The best thing for business, government and the general public is a well paid work force. Business needs customers. Labor needs wage increases and government needs revenues from one side or the other.

Re: What do you think is the best strategy

Don was thinking you might have some productive ideas. We cannot always disagree on everything, but you do make that probable.

The tax code needs work. Far too much tax avoidance going on. The cure for that is not taxing income but taxing receipts. A wholesale sales tax collected at the corporate level. You sell it, we tax it. No more shipping jobs over seas to avoid taxes. If you sell it in america it gets taxed.

A transaction tax on trading. The market works and brokerage firms charge fees. Why not the government. If we are going to tax casinos in Iowa and Oklahoma, why not the grand casinos in Chicago Kansaas city and new york?

Re: Since you asked

  • Tighten down on illegal immigration. Well if the illegals aren't here doing the work, then those unemployed can do it, then they will no longer be unemployed

  • Remove all incentives to staying on welfare. That should influence those on welfare to take jobs

  • Stop using business as IRS collection agents. When people have to write there own checks to government they will not be so inclined to vote for so much government intrusion which in turn will promote business

  • Drill. Should be self-explanatory

  • Reform our education system. A real education will make one more productive

How is raising taxes going to create jobs?

Re: What do you think is the best strategy

Give government more options to protect existing jobs plus the fund to renew and rebuild public infrastructure.
