Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

I wouldn't be in favor of the buring of any book., Or phonograph record. Or video production.

The burning of Mein Kampf would destroy part of the very record of what it lead to. Part of the programs that it's writer led to WAS teh buring of books, in an effort to eliminate them as record.

There are days I wonder if some of you guys aren't simply caricatures, or maybe  participants in some big parody project assigned by some Jr. College journalism instructor. But then, you've been here long enough that you should have completed the course by now.

Why build a mosque a couple blocks from the wtc. Why fly a plane in some buildings. why try setting a bomb off in time square, Maybe that guy is tired of there crap and is trying to take a stand while others just roll over.

I agree with you.  As I have said, The burning of books usually will end up with the burning of people.  I do not like censorship.  The free exchange of ideas is what keeps the Tree of Liberty growing.

Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

AC Farmer, you wrote, "Maybe that guy is tired of there crap and is trying to take a stand while others just roll over." Try telling the men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq  the veterans who served there and the families of the wounded and dead that they just "rolled over." We are taking a stand and how you see fit to imply that we are not is incomprehensible. We don't need preachers to fight this war. We are fighting it right now without his help.

Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

The unsolicited Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.

Such religious outreach can endanger American troops and civilians in the devoutly Muslim nation, Wright said.

"The decision was made that it was a 'force protection' measure to throw them away, because, if they did get out, it could be perceived by Afghans that the U.S. government or the U.S. military was trying to convert Muslims," Wright told CNN on Tuesday.

Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

I dont disagree with you and yes there are plenty of people not rolling over. But listen to the news and some peoples replies on the net on the topic and how wrong it is and on and on and I would say they forgot what we are fighting.

Re: What are you fighting?

Hi acfarmer;

You mention people have forgotten what they are fighting and so ask just what are you fighting because I do not know.

Specifics would be good, I know some will say terrorists but the evidence for that being the reason you are fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is pretty scarce.

And burning the Muslim holy book would seem to me, to be increasing the terrorists rather than fighting it/them.

Fine!  Let him buy a ticket to Afghanistan and do it there so that only he will die because of it.  What can he possibly accomplish that would mean squat??  Pretty **bleep** empty gestures to me.

Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

It is wrong.  He is a gutless idiot.  He is risking nothing by doing this.  Americans pride themselves for being a cut above everyone else at least in their minds.  Why do we want to stoop to the level of our enemies?  We laugh at them when they do something meaningless but then turn around and praise some redneck preacher for doing the same thing.  Let him do it where there is risk involved and the jerk couldn't light the match because he would be shaking so much.
