Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

Sherb, you hit the nail on the head - it is a gesture plain and simple - no more effective than flipping the middle finger in doing anything about this problem. All it does is raise ire and solves nothing.

Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

As well they should have.  American soldiers are not there to convert anyone to any religion and I suspect that like campaigning while in uniform is prohibited by the UCMJ that proselytizing is also prohibited.  Muslim countries don't want someone coming in and trying to change their citizens' religion anymore than you would like a different religion coming into your church and trying to convert the members.  I have no understanding why Americans feel that they can just do whatever they want because they want to.  Our country is the best place in the world for US to live and our way of life is the best in the world for US to live in but other peoples may not feel the same way and think that THEIR country and way of life is best for them.

The FBI may think that but the military thinks it will put thousands of American troops in a much heightened degree of danger.  Let him go to Afghanistan and do it.

Sure, you and the preacher have the right to say and do pretty much whatever you want to but would you walk up to Mike Tison and tell him that his facial tattoos are ugly and that he was pretty stupid to have had them done?  You may be securely within your "rights" to do it but I think it would be rather dumb to follow through with it.

Tis true, what you say.... however, when most folks flip the middle finger, they get one back, get some foul words sent their way, or a horn honk.

When the muslims get the middle finger, usually some gets their head sliced off with a sharp knife.....heck, all you have to do is admit that you are a Christian over in Pakistan and you get your head cut off and stuck in your lap. (13 year old girl that converted to Christianity, click to see this girl)   http://www.beardface.com/files/news_images/beheaded_girl.jpg

GREAT IDEA!!  Go over there and start converting bunches of people to Christianity and they will kill them all.  Keep going until there are only two left.  Convert one and that leaves you only to kill yourself.

Re: Reckless endangerment of other peoples lives

It's not just Soldiers in the mideast that are endangered by this pointless exercise. It's the many americans that are involved throughout the world. Yes even missionaries from your own churches may be at risk.

That doesn't excuse the muslim worlds over reaction to the burning of the Koran, but look how amisguided americans are enraged about building a mosque in New York. Some times people are irrational and react in different ways than they should. It's just not easy to rationalize with irrational people. All muslims are not terrorists just like all americans are not book burners or wanting to incite discord around the world.

All of this because some misguided folks want to make the point they're not gonna take it any more. What will they have won by this other than charging the unreasonable to take vengence against the innocent. You don't throw sharp objects out on the interstate because it might endander someone else. There is nothing to be gain and much to be lost by irrational acts.

We can only control ourselves, what we do. All we can do about the others is to refuse to be the tripwire that ignites them to action.

At the local Indianola Public Elementary School...Irving School.... had muslim Iowa House Representative Ako Abdul-Samad and an Islamic imam visit the third grade to teach the kids about Islam, gave them muslim names to feel the part of being muslim.....AND, taught the kids how to PRAY to Allah.

The parents were not consulted.

Also, in the Indianola High School, this past year, the High School 11th grade had to attend an assembly that had a muslim representative tell the children how wonderful Islam is.   He did not go into Sharia Law and how women are treated as chattel and property.... and how death is the penalty for most offences to "Islam".

That is why my children stopped attending the Indianola Public Schools, and we acquired a house in a neighboring county so that our kids can have a normal education experience.

Indianola Schools will never allow anyone to celebrate Christ or anything to do with Christianity....but seem to have no problem in inviting those who promote other religions.

They are seeking to control our kids minds, and I refuse to allow that to happen.....THAT is where the rubber meets the road.

Re: What would motivate people to burn the koran?

And you think that few minutes exposure to men of the muslim faith is worse than what they are exposed in their every day life. Do you not expose your children to your wacky dialogue or do you hush up in their presence so to not contamilate their skulls full of mush?
