When lefties hate taxes

When their name is at the top of the bill. They fly around the world on their private jets and write letters beside their indoor heated underground pools telling the rest of us we need to pay more for energy because we are melting the planet but when it's their turn to pay their fair share they do everything possible to hide their income. Talk about being subsidised by the government.

Robert Redford is suing New York state related to the sale of Sundance Channel.

The actor-director sued the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany County Supreme Court on July 30 claiming that he's being overtaxed on money his company made when it sold off a stake in the channel in 2005.

According to Courthouse News Service, Redford is being taxed $1.6 million by New York ($845,066 in taxes plus $727,404 in interest owed) on the money he made. But Redford, a Utah resident, says he paid taxes on the revenue in Utah and therefore doesn't owe New York.

Doesn't it stand to reason that he shouldn't be taxed in both states? In my case I am a resident of Okjlahoma but my land holdings are in Iowa. The earnings are in Iowa, therefore the bulk of the state taxes are paid in Iowa.

Redford is a citizen of Utah and likely the sundance channel is located in Utah. If they are doing business in new york should they pay state income tax there/How about Ford motor company when they earn profits in all 5o states do they pwe state income taxin allnstates or just the state where the corporate offices are?

In this case Redford is not avoiding taxes he is challenging where the taxes are owed. In my case the taxes are paid according to law. If Iowa and Oklahoma want to dispute over that its fine with me. But leaveme out of it. Let them sue each other and I will deal with the result. Redford and I shouldn't be involved in an interstate pissing contest.

The question is not about avoiding taxes, but paying taxes to whom they are owed. He is not avoiding taxes or evading taxes. He paid them where he was advised to pay them.

Now if you showa profit of $10 million on wallstreet , will you pay state income taxes in New York?. I think not.

Was there anything in the deal that indicated that he avoided federal income taxes? Then why question his patriotism?

Sundance is based in New York. He needs to pay his fair share like the rest of the peasants. He needs to lead by example showing the importance of paying taxes to betterment of society. Guess he hates the poor and minorities viewing them unworthy of his tax dollar. No two ways about it, he hates kids.

The real question here is why are you taking the slant you are taking on this? Are you for people just rolling over or are you for them paying what is fair and what they owe?. I don't see where he is trying to avoid paying taxes, but I do see he is fighting taxes he thinks he has already paid. You should be behind him on this one, but you deem deadset against him because of his name alone.

You are right Knapper. The best thing that could happen is to starve the beast. Hope he prevails. The best way to avoid New York taxes is to away from New York.

NewYork has a policy that any money made in New York is taxed for New York. If a Pro team plays in the city the players owe taxes as to what they would have made that day percentage of income wise.

Did he sell the channel in New York or Utah?  Whatever state it was, he should get credit for the taxes paid in Utah if he owes taxes in New York.  Where is the Sundance Channel HQ'd?
