The author argues that there isn`t anymore to "strip mine" from the bottom 80%. And what is a bigger threat to the status quo, 50 million starving Americans mad as hell in the streets...or 10,000 financiers that lose a couple trillion in phantom wealth?

Actually I wouldn`t discount the "50 million mad as hell Americans" maybe even bump it up to 200 million mad as hell Americans, so desperate they they will back the first socialist that will take them out of the frying pan and into the fire.
