Who would Obama and Dems prefer to run against?

I'm curious what folks think as to which Repub Obama and Dems would prefer to run against in 2012.

Would Ron Paul make it hard for Obama to once again come off as the anti-war anti-GITMO candidate?  Would R.P. capture many of the Independent votes that helped Obama win in 08?

I'm think Newt is one of the brighter Repubs when it comes to knowing the issues and could be a tougher person for Obama to debate?  Newt has some past personal issues but wonder if Obama could exploit them to their full potential.   Could Dems who defended Clinton's extra-marital affairs as a personal issue pull it off and appear to now act like Repubs and champions of family values to get the full benefit of attacking Newts past marital issues?

If Romney gets the nod I'm thinking Dems would have to tone down their Romney flip flopping criticism as it would open Obama up to challenges that he made numerous campaign promises that he has never kept or has seemed to flip flop himself on.

I would think Obama would prefer to go up against Perry or Cain.   While Cain may take away some of the black vote I think Obama would have little trouble beating him come next Nov. unless the economy takes a sharp turn for the worse.  Perry like Cain has made numerous mental speaking errors that make then look less like a serious presidential contender in my opinion and again believe Obama could easily defeat Perry barring any October surprises.

As for the rest of the Repub field I just don't see them as serious contenders at this stage of the game which is less then 5 weeks from the Iowa caucuses.

The one person that I think could give Obama the most trouble has decided not to run and I'm not refering to Gov. Christie.   I'm talking about Hillary who I think is one of the few politicians in D.C. that has actually raised her stock in the last three years.

Paul. It would focus the debates on the more important pressing issues. Anybody else would create a re-hashing or recycling of the pro wrestling of the past 5 or 6 campaigns and only make the public just that much more cynical, frustrated and ultimately disinterested. Not sure tho' that any of us have any kind of clear picture of what the actual conditions that might surround us and concerns of the day may be come next Autumn.

I think Newt has the best chance to out-debate him as far as that goes, but his past may poison his chances to be President.  However, the debate would be one to see.

Cain has had too many blunders, both personally, and in debates.

For pure entertainment value, I think Bachmann would be fun, but possibly a bit painful, kind of like an extra spicy burrito you can't stop eating.

I think Romney or Paul might have the strongest chances agains Obama, as of right now, though.

PS. Obama v Gingrich debates could trigger mass organized and orchestrated communal suicides. Unimaginable, but I'd suspect that if you checked with the odds makers they'd have that as the prohibitive favorite for what we are going to get. And they are probably right.

Well, and to be honest, I'm independant, so I don't follow the primaries too close, until someone is actually chosen as I don't do the party votes.

Imo dems would prefer to run against the republican that inspires the most negative reaction among the middle of the road dems and independants. That would be bachman, Perry, or newt.

It will be interesting to see this president debate, since he has a totally different idea of what the presidency is than any of those who went before him.

This organizer may just be trying to choose who he runs against.  lol not

They`d love to run against Herman Cain right now Smiley Happy  Obama`s best chance would be against John Huntsman.   Charlie Rose had a roundtable talking to 2 liberal journalists and Evan Thomas.  They said- Presidents can be divided into 2 groups, those that love the job Clinton of course, Reagan and Bush #43.   Then tere is the Presidents that schmoozing is like pulling teeth..Nixon, Carter, Bush #41(Kerry would be in the camp) ...annd One Barack Husein Obama!  They said as "Brilliant"Smiley Very Happy as he is, he has not made a connection with the people.  Huntsman seems "vanilla" so that factor would be off the table if he was the contender.

I'm thinking Clinton (and this is just from his testimony) would have actually inhaled while at Oxford and a Rhodes Scholar if the doopie had been well how do I put this um well if it had been sweetened the same as the cigar was by Monica Lewinsky.

Now there is one guy who enjoyed his job.
