They found out you have to work.

Re: Why capitalism is so hated by liberals
I'd say that "disappointed in" would be a better way to express the way many of thsoe who don't see thjngs as you do feel about this modern day crony capitialism that we are living under.
And as for the "work" thing, I'd say that most of the good folks who have given of themselves to drive the engines of capitalism...provided the labor that fueled those engines are feeling bad that so much of it has been outsourced. Feeling glum over not having the income/buying power they once had to support our capitalists by purchasing their products and services as they once did. Confused over the current masters of capitalism being satisfied playing ping pong and shooting marbles with each other hoping they can suck in a little more with each game from what the little people have left and from the public treasury in order to be able siphon off a piece of the action each go round.
The only real hate I see anywhere is from the supporters among the middle and lower classes that are held over cultural rather than economic causes who have in turn sold their souls via political support of entities who generally work agains their own best economic interests. It's rather amazing, actually.

Re: Why capitalism is so hated by liberals
As friends have been factory workers I have an insight into some of their lives. One consistent aspect of their life is the attitude that it's them against the company.
The other significant aspect of their lives is the lack of investment. A group of farmers will discuss new seed, techniques and machinery. They invest in their future and their business. Factory and office workers view the place where they work as a parent that should supply them with every piece of equipment and should educate them as to how to use it. They resist new technology and avoid taking on extra tasks.
Many of the people I've known that worked or work for somebody else are content to show up, do their job and go home. They have no desire to take on more responsibility or use their money to improve their work condition. If the company doesn't supply it they do without and complain.
That isn't the way I view farmers. Yes they complain but they do something about their work conditions, they take chances and are usually rewarded. The same is true with many small business people, they work more hours than their employee's and then the employee's complain about the money that the business makes.
Bottom line, those who don't like capitalism haven't used it, they've been used by those who do. The difference between capitalism in the US and socialism is with capitalism you have a choice and and chance to do better.

Re: Why capitalism is so hated by liberals
I wasn't aware this was a discussion comparing farmers with non-farmers. I might have answered differently.
"used by those wh odo"...well, most certainly more recently. "used" being the proper word, for sure. The most successful sustainable enterprises have historically been those wherein their relationship was seen by both labor and management as a partnership.
