Re: Geeze dag, it's 1st ammendment thing

People are willing.  The documentary is breaking all sorts of records.

Re: Geeze dag, it's 1st ammendment thing

I'd read that somewhere.  Coming in over some first run blockbusters.

What is the name of it?  I'll check and see if it's running near by.

It's not a documentary though, is it?  More a video op-ed, much like a Michael Moore movie, only from the other side of the fence.

I get creeped out over what is coming down the road when an unashamedly biased topical movie comes out.  The worst blod bath ever held on this site was over The Last Temptation of Christ.

Re: Will McAvoy on tea baggers

This just isn't fair and balanced. HBO produces a show which happens to challenge the authenticity of republican dogma and critiques so many claims by the batcrap crazies of the right. A one hour documentary that appears every sunday and is rebroadcat a few times each week.

AS opposed to Fox News which has a constant barrage of anti democrat rhetoric 24/7/365 with no logic or reason supporting it.

Newsroom is not a documentary, but it is a vehicle that challenges many of the myths posed by the right. It exposes the crazies of your party. The ones that serious party members dance around because they hope to earn political advantage from the gullible amongst us. Is newsroom biased? Probably but the exposure of the lies and the challenges to the rhetoric of the right poses great entertainment value to those of us that agree. Let us enjoy our few moments of joy each week.

Tune in fox news and your heart will warm to the constant barrage against my president.  That will complete your hatefest and convince you that you are right.

Sorkin favors democrats. Well we can't have that, now can we?

I read in the paper, that the maker of the movie, was 'inspired' to release it when he did, by Moore's strategic release of one of his movies, I think the '911' movie, but I'm not 100% sure.

We don't elect those.

Re: Geeze dag, it's 1st amendment thing

Bruce, the name of the show is "Newsroom."  It is definitely not a documentary even when using the word documentary as loosely as Moore has done.  As I said I like it and think it has a talented group of writers and actors.

I agree they have a 1st amendment right to produce what ever they want in their fictional show.  I was simply pointing out several strange coincidences surrounding this show.

1. Although the show's title is Newsroom although most of the show's topics deal with politics as opposed to news stories.

2. The show is entirely one-sided and as biased as one can get when talking about the two political parties.  They love to point out discrepancies and stupid moves made by Repubs but NEVER say a bad word about Dems caught up in very similar situations..

3.  The show is produced by a big time Dem supporter who has made numerous political donations in the last year or two to Obama and Dems to the tune of over $160,000.

4.The timing of the release of this new show on HBO seems to be more then coincidental.

While HBO is pay to view it has over 24 million US subscribers so I'm guessing the actual number people with access to HBO is at least 3 times as high as the 24 million subscribers.   One also should note that HBO will offer free HBO programming for week or so at least a couple of times a year.

Re: Geeze dag, it's 1st amendment thing

Usaully repubs are troubled when they don't have complete control all the time. They expect rebuttal time and when did you ever see a rebuttal by a dem on Fox news.

You are unreasonable with your expectations. Newsroom has a great advantage in that they have talented speech writers that can effectively blow holes in the right wing BS. You need the chnce to refute it and its unavailable. Would you want to control the content of all Tv programming or just the ones that pain you?

I wonder if you will feel the same about 2016 the consrvative wack job on Barack Obama. Will you protest their unbalanced approach?

Isn't Alan Colmes and Juan Williams still with Fox News?  They are a constant rebuttal.

At least you are admitting the wack job part of the show.  Noone is protesting the approach...they can make their show about whatever they want...its the way they try to sell themselves as being about "truth" when they are actually a totally partisan venture.

All the time.  Alan Combs had a show on Fox, that I watched from time to time, and he still is on the payroll at Fox, and I see him once in a while, and considering I only watch Fox news 1 or 2 hours a week, either he is pretty regular, or I just happen to be watching when he pops up.
Juan Williams is another regular who keep seeing.  I actually like him better than Combs, he seems to be a Democrat who understands that Democrats are not right 100% of the time.

Of all the news channels out there, can you name one, besides Fox, that is conservative?  There are plenty of liberal ones out there, but only a couple conservative ones.

I feel the same about that, as I did Moore's 911 movie, or that move with Josh Brolin...wasn't it called 'W', or something like that?  It is all about movie makers seeing an opportunity to sell tickets, and taking it.  The more that they pander to one side or the other (within limits) the more tickets they sell.  In the entertainment industry, they say there is no such thing as bad publicity.

About all you can do with that sort of thing, is rebuff what is said in the movie with actual facts, and see what happens.  For example, in many school systems, Al Gore's 'Inconvenient Truth' cannot be shown anymore, without there being disclaimors pointing out the more glaring factual errors.  Without seeing the movie, one cannot know if it is just done from a skewed perspective, or with downright falsehoods.
