Re: Oh, jeez, " government made hay expensive"
Lol yes the govermoment didnt have to make hay too expensive, a better solution came along and MARKET forces controlled the outcome. Didnt need the government to force it to happen by bankrupting the people of the country.

https://financesonline.com/number-of-cars-in-the-us/
number of cars * avg kwh/mile * 14000 miles/year = required additional electric generation capacity/year.
Now calculate the infrastructure cost to deliver that electricity.
When it makes sense you won't have to force people to do it.

Re: "Calculate the infrastructure", I did, you idiot.
The average home price for most of the states in the middle of the country (not on the East or West coast) is about $160-170,000. A solar collector to power a house and charge a vehicle costs about $10,000 (cash price), put a solar panel on the house, include it the cost in of the mortgage, and get your vehicle's energy cost paid for.
I live in a rural republican county where the ave. income is only $35,000 and it's amazing how many homes already have some solar. Get with the program, already.

now use the above math and tell me the number of solar panels will be required to produce that much electricity.
