austerity is the answer

Is tht what you beleive? In times of high unemployment, stagnant economy. do you relly believe that austerity is the solution to "getting our economy going again"

What about all the folks personally effected by budget cuts, do you nstill think they will be shopping at the mall or buying groceries clothing and paying their mortgage?

Is it better to put cops firement and teachers on unemployment or subsidize the communities t to keepthem on the job,

If austerity is the solution, just how will that work to improve employment and the economy?

Re: austerity is the answer

Is the answer 5 trillion, probably closer to 6 trillion now, in new debt and 0% interest rates? Or is the answer public employees retiring at age 47 with full benefits for life and a government take over of health care? May be the answer is the EPA putting coal fired energy out of business, killing oil pipe lines, and replacing it with Solyndra.

Is it okay to foul our air and water making it even more difficult for us and especially our grandchildren to survive in the future to make your idea of a better economy? You don't generally cut off your nose to spite your face.

Re: austerity is the answer

4 years, no austerity, no recovery.  How long are you willing to build more debt against the future for something that is obviously failing?  All you're doing is enslaving further than you already have your children and grand children.

Who is fouling the air? Could it be all the mercury in those squiggly light bulbs.

Re: austerity is the answer

We are dealing with a crisis situation, the biggest problem being unemployment. How will austerity solve that problem? Or maybe you don't want it solved. Do You want more people laid off? Or just in the public sector? Do you want people my earn less? Is that your recipe for success to force people to work for less?

That seems to be the target of republicans. Cut the labor force,  Create demand for jobs so worker are forced to work for less. Cut taxes so we can't afford to do things that need to be done.

Re: austerity is the answer

How about looking at what we can do to get US companies to keep jobs in the US.

In the last decade US companies have cut 2.9 million jobs in the US while growing 2.5 million jobs in other countries.  I believe this can mainly be attributed to less corporate taxes and less wages available overseas.  However many of the jobs are going to Ireland and other European countries as opposed India or China where wages are much lower so it's not just about finding the cheapest work force.  Many countries have lowered their corporate taxes to entice US companies to relocate.

How long can we allow this trend to continue?

Re: austerity is the answer

I like the President's idea, reward the companies that stay here, and stick it to the one's who have left or do leave. Use the proceeds of the corporations that leave, to reward the one's who stayed or start new businesses. What gripes me, is the factories that are shut down, and abandon, where are the "job creators"? Why aren't they stepping up reopening these factories? The people that used to work there know how to make it run. Why do you suppose that hasn't happened? Is it because these, "job creators" aren't really, "job creators", just a bunch of free loading jerks that haven't got a clue how to start a company, it was all Daddy's money? The fact is they don't give a da mn about America, they've got theirs and the rest can eat rice, right?

Re: austerity is the answer

You didn't answer the question, how long, how much?

employment

You've already staked out that none of the possible solutions are acceptable to you. Lower wages or tariffs.
