Re: Highly intelligent

That that tax revenues will be lost to the economy. Are you saying government won't spend it and it won't gravitate through the economy? Is that what you are saying?

Are You saying the FSA check you get does not get spent in the economy. That  unemployment checks do not get spent in the economy? That social security checks don't get sent in the economy?

Just where in the hell do you think that money goes?

Re: austerity is the answer

Did I give you crap for going to a Mexican dentist?  Funny my first reaction is, if you want to go to a dentist with a dirt floor and the waiting room full of chickens, whose idea of anasethsia is a #4 monkey wrench, to save a couple bucks ...I say go for it!   I didn`t know my pickup was made in Mexico until I looked at the door post to see the GVW sticker.  Where can we go to buy American?  Even John Deere that`s assembled in Waterloo has Chinese electrical components..even their bearings. We have to live within this system even though it sucks..all I can do is complain to you about it and tell you what the answer is, but no one will listen.  The small consolation prize was that I wasn`t clueless.  Those "gov`t work projects" aren`t needed and a waste of money that we don`t have ...I know boo hoo hoo what if you have a fire, you want a new firetruck on the scene don`t you???  Yes, I suppose I would and if a giant metor hit the earth I would want to be living in a colony on the moon.

Re: austerity is the answer

I think some need to read the facts on the Bush tax cuts that Gough implies were only for his rich buddies when in fact almost everyone saw cuts in their taxes and is the main reason why 47% of folks today pay no federal taxes.

"From 2004 to 2007, federal tax revenues increased by $785 billion, the largest four-year increase in American history. According to the Treasury Department, individual and corporate income tax receipts were up 40 percent in the three years following the Bush tax cuts. The rich paid an even higher percentage of the total tax burden than they had at any time in at least the previous 40 years."

The problem was that under Bush spending increased as he never had the guts to veto any of the pork spending.

I'm still struggling to understand why if the Bush taxs did not work and were such a bad thing why then did Obama and a Dem controlled Congress extend them???

Don, you seem to suggest that it was only Clinton that helped get us out of the red and that Congress played no roll.

Do you recall Clinton's economic plan to help right our ship?   Does the word austerity ring a bell?

The following according to the left leaning NY Times.

Feb. 18, 1993

President Clinton's economic plan proposes making $253 billion in spending cuts over four years by eliminating some programs and cutting back others, including a plan to scale back the $30 billion space station to eliminate cost overruns.

The plan he presented to Congress would also cut benefits for retirees, veterans and the poor by $91 billion over four years and impose or raise fees on many Government services.

As part of an effort to convince Americans who would pay higher taxes that his plan to reduce the deficit would be fair, $8.3 billion of the savings would be accomplished by freezing Federal workers' pay for one year and reducing future scheduled raises. Earlier Presidents

No as far as highways go I'm all for maintenance as necessary paid for by usage fees. Some type of fee in Exchange for use and based on use is completely justifiable. Building 1960s infastructure for a post peak oil world is retarded. Creating fake jobs will not bring back industrial America. Send out big checks to everyone and the jobs will still be created in China. Until that issue is addressed you're just pissing money away.
