Re: austerity is the answer
Why is it, whenever cutting spending is mentioned, you always seem to want to fire or cut the wages to firemen, police, and teachers, yet no mention is made of the $100K+ lawyers that were supposed to be watching over the investment bankers, but instead were surfing porn (some for more of the day than they were doing their actual jobs), people who are in prison, and still getting a government paycheck, etc. Why do you dislike the Police, firemen, and teachers so much?

Stimulus Cost Per Job Saved or Created In Pennsylvania: $242,647

The question is, how permanent is this, and was it worth the cost?

Re: austerity is the answer
I can understand rewarding the companies that stay in the US, exactly what is his plan to 'reward' them?
Up higher in this thread, Kraft-t says that tax breaks are not the answer, so how else can he do it?
On the other side, how do you 'punish' the companies that move overseas? If they are now in another country, the US has no power to do much, and they can't single out goods from just some companies for tarriffs.

Re: austerity is the answer
Bad Ass Deere fails to mention that Obama inherited a rollar coaster heading or a crash and got absolutely no cooperation in averting the inevitable crash!
GW Bush inherited the mildest of recessions and obama inherited a train wreck. any difference there?

Re: austerity is the answer
so you think that government works projects is unneeded. Who is gonns fix the bridges and roads if not the government. Thousands of bridges that need to be refiurbished or replace creating thousands of jobs for the under employed. Money that will reverberate though society like the oil money in North dakota.
3020 thinks government money spent ois lost to the economy. It is not. It travels thourgh our economy just like a corporation spending money.
Getting something in return for your money is much better than not getting a return for our money. Case in point Afghanistan and Iraq!

"and got absolutely no cooperation in averting the inevitable crash!"
The first 2 years of Obama's term he had majorities. He easily got his stimulus passed, and got a monumentally unpopular healthcare law enacted. He got done what was his priority to get done.
Look at the new jobs numbers. U6 is now at 19%. How long Don, do we just coast along moving people from unemployment to long term support until something is done to correct the situation. How many people can we put on SS disability? Wages must fall or tariffs must go up, no other way. And tariff's going up is a dangerous road.
Unless you're one of those that think all the governments funding can just be created, austerity WILL come.

And what did Obama do with his nearly 1 TRILLION dollar in shovel ready stimulus? He found out no shovel ready project is EVER shovel ready because of agencies like the EPA, and so he gave it to companies like Solyndra.
