I don't think anyone would call me a liberal.  I do think that because of affirmative action that any African American who truly wants to get ahead does have to work a lot harder just to prove they aren't there because of affirmative action.

The same goes for females. 

If we made an even playing field where you get a job or education based on performance rather than race or gender it would have the effect of validating anybody who has a degree or a job.
