Re: burning the koran/quran
Not so very long ago this contorversy could have been seen as a good thing..an "out in the light of day" matter where it would have brought out into that light something that millions hadn't ever considered possible. But not sure now.
Yeats was right abou the center not being able to hold. Do you suppose, nox, that the reaching of the tipping point will spawn a press conference?

Re: burning the koran/quran
Illogical religious nuts are stupid no matter what their religious affiliation. Such a pathetic set of circumstances and the world has to survive the presence of such mindless people.

Re: burning the koran/quran
Hi Bruce,
Lol, no I rather doubt it.
The thought that has been with me consistently over the ast 15 years or so was the very unnatural extent to which social mood was maintained at high levels. Even though there were some disturbing trends in place i.e., sharply accelerating debt across the board, the decline of a middle class etc. the troops stayed pretty well in line. They were told that the economy was good, asset inflation would take care of them, etc.
My thought is that there is a seesaw effect to that and that in an economy that at best will be very sluggish under a decade or more of deleveraging, social mood has only begun to deteriorate.
I'll put on my tinfoil hat here. I don't know who or what inside the permanent government understands this but I suppose there are some pretty savvy folks somewhere in there. I'd think they would have to understand that the mood of the little people poses a distinct threat to their country. You can't stop social mood but you can redirect it
That seems to me to be a recipe for some very pathological outcomes.
Best, h

The National Socialists in Depression Era Germany understood this well.... and fully put that mood to work....for them.
I have said before, and will say again.... we are in the same position as the pre-WWII Germany with a leader that fully intends on Changing The American Landscape.

Re: burning the Koran/quran
After nine years in Afganistan, if something this wacky preacher does seriously endangers the troops, I think we probably have something else that needs discussing.

@idalivered wrote:this is THE big news story. my question is: if the govt' tells them/him not to go thru with it, does that cross a line of the govt. dictating what some religion can or can't do? How far do we go in the name of freedom of religion? I guess if this pastor and his flock wanted attention, they got it now.
I am generally against censorship and the burning of books.....usually the burning of books will eventually lead to the burning of people. (see the video of the muslims in Kenya, burning five people, while yet alive http://www.truthtube.tv/play.php?vid=2139 )
These people burning the Q'uran, are actually playing into the hands of leaders in this country, who will see that it is time to declare a dictatorship over the American people.
One thing for sure....history always repeats itself. 😞 (National Socialists in Berlin - 1933)

Re: burning the Koran/quran
With fanatical people, things like this only gives them more of an excuse to increase the violence and gives them further proof of how "evil" we Americans are. Of course, it will increase the already very real danger. And for what? Fifteen minutes of fame for this crack pot rightwinger? One has the RIGHT to do most anything in this country but several things come to mind that really shouldn't be done--if you have half a brain. We have been taught in this country since we were little kids that Americans DON'T act like most of the rest of the world. We are compassionate, understanding people and we try to treat everyone the same and good Christians don't go around doing these things.

Re: burning the koran/quran
Not sure about the "crowded market" part but it would do a whole lot of good if they all gathered inside their little "center" with a Qu'ran and a stick of dynamite, a match and short fuzes and went to check out the virgins.
