I once was a fire direction chief for a battery of M107s which was a self propelled 175mm gun with a range of about 21 miles. The battery consisted of 6 guns and when we called "battery one round" they all shot at once and that was also something to see and HEAR! My battery had the distinction of firing the only known round down range and getting the shell back. It had a faulty fuse and didn't go off ending up in the middle of a German army tent in Graefenwehr (not spelled correctly). The Commander got it back after eod burned the charge out of it and hd it put on a stand in his office with a plaque commemorating the event. Scary for our fire direction section!!
