facebook lies

This is not political but is there any recourse when distorted information and outright lies are posted on face book? I speak from a person viewing on the internet and personal experiences.  We had an incident with a renter who went on face book and told complete falsehoods and we ignored it. We could only hope people who knew us would consider the source. It seems this goes beyond freedom of speech.

To win damages against someone who has libeled you, you must prove the written statement was:

false
harmed your reputation or your business’s reputation
published to at least one other person
about you or your business specifically, and
made with some degree of fault and intention.

Re: facebook lies

What do political views and lies have to do with it? You don't question someone's statements when you rely on answers. There is misinformation all around now and people have always had a separate opinion from the media and political representatives. We, too, have had the right to say what we think, given that we are a democracy. But let's not go into detail and impose our views. You are talking about publications and opinions based on info and not on one person. It's like https://www.1394ta.org/developers/Seminars/2008_MS1394b.pdf and there are statistics based on people's opinions.
