forced sterilization

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stump_v._Sparkman

Famous Indiana case that went all the way to the SCOTUS.

Sort of the tail end of the period of eugenics but still not unheard of in 1971. One of those good old Republican Circuit Judges For Life in rural Indiana was scourged in Justice White's majority opinion.

Re: forced sterilization

It was always a well known fact that a couple of the elderly village idiots who were permitted to wander freely had been fixed in their youth.

Re: forced sterilization

I think they did the right thing. He made a mistake and paid for it. Although I am a little confused that many people think that sterilization is something very bad and akin to punishment (of course, if we are talking about that sterilization when a person was fully conscious and understood what step he was going to). Also, sterilization is very useful in the personal life of every married couple, when they already have children, and you want a variety in sex. Recently thanks to https://cityurologen.se/sterilisering-av-man%e2%80%8b/ my friend, who is already 40 years old, has made himself a sterilization and he is completely satisfied with the result.
