great news

A peace deal between the United States and its once sworn enemy the Taliban has been sealed in twin ceremonies, in which the US has agreed to wind down the war in Afghanistan after more than 18 years of fighting that turned into the longest conflict in American history, and to withdraw all of its troops from Afghanistan.

Re: great news

Carefully calibrated so that the withdrawal timeline assures none of the certain negative consequences will occur before the election. And there will be some.

Not that I'm opposed.

BTW, I'm of the opinion that if economic turmoil embroils us before the election, the risk of war with Iran rises sharply. That would require some sort of casus belli, which can be produced upon demand.

Re: great news

I'm of the opinion that Afghanistan will return to exactly what it was.  Staying there another day, or year or ten years will not change that.

Re: great news

Kurt, thanks for the LOL moment of the day.

Yesterday I had a couple of farmers in my office and I asked if either knew of a good joke ......after a little silence, I muttered "Bernie Sanders" and got some good laughs.

Nutz is brushing up on his latin, no doubt, to write his version of The Rise and Fall of the American Empire, ala Gibbon.

About as funny as when there is a new buzz word like "astro-turfing" or "gaslighting" and the other clown starts using it in every other post until he bore-us to death.

At least it keeps them occupied so they are less likely to be axe murderers or beat their wives. Although, I would have to see them in person...something tells me that both have wives that could probably beat them up.

Re: great news

Don't suppose we could all declare victory, wish the Afghanistani people the very best, but then just come home?

Nahhh, life is never that simple, is it? Even with carefully managed "water spigot wars," turning them off is never quite as easy as making the decision to turn them on in the first place.

Yes, Kurt, very good one!  Any way that you look at Nox, .... he doesn’t have any “gravitas”.
