Since assault styled weapons are unquestionably the preferred weapon for mass shooters, it would also provide another gate to pass through to reduce the ability for disturbed individuals to gain easy access.
The Kenosha kid and his Mom might be getting enough gofundme money and offers as commentators on Fox and OAN that they don't care but I sort of imagine they wish he'd just stayed home and played Fortnight.
A few dead Antifa communists are a definite plus.

Re: gun buy back?
The tower shooting in Texas didn't use a semi auto. Nor did literally thousands of other murders. They used fists, knives, baseball bats and cars or pistols and shotguns.
It's ridiculous to ascertain that removing a hunting weapon/SELF defense weapon will save any significant portion of the thousands killed each year by doctors, cars and other weapons.
It's also ridiculous to continue to allow rich people to have special trained guards carrying weapons while denying weapons of defense to private citizens. And with regard to the hackneyed comments about muskets, let's extend that to computers, movies, television. You do notice they had explosives and canons when the Constitution was written?

Re: gun buy back?
Do you notice the death tolls in countries where they use IEDs? Or do you remember Oklahoma City and the Twin Towers? More people killed in those events than have ever been killed by an AR style rifle or will ever be killed by a private citizen with an AR style rifle.
Maybe we should ban fertilizer, vans and commercial jets or limit how many people can congregate in one place.
Oh, wait, I believe that's part of the Green Deal and commie Harris.

Re: gun buy back?
I don't expect that there will be a lot of measurable benefit from the aforementioned policies.
But the point is that there is a constitutional line somewhere, and we're drawing it here.
The 2A crowd has already frog boiled us into the situation where armed people can assemble in what is crystal clear unconstitutional militia activity and the authorities shield it as 2A protected.
It is nothing of the sort.

Re: gun buy back?
Your law degree must come from the same European source as Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Not surprisingly given her earlier opinions, Justice Ginsburg comes out strongly in favor of the Court’s use of foreign and international law materials to interpret U.S. law, including the Constitution.
Because Europeans have so much freedom and live in such a utopian environment. (<sarcasm) Not one piece of paper has ever stopped an armed intruder or mugger. Only the law abiding citizen is adversely affected by laws that limit the ownership of self protection.
