By law the salaries of congressmen is $174,000 per year. The Majority leader and the minority leader each draw annual salaries of $193,400 and the speaker of the house receives and annual salary of $233,500. If congressman Clyburn is offered any other leadership position he will still draw the base salary of $174,000 per year.

There is power and influence included in the elevation into leadership. Plus it gives you an inside track for further advancement.

Congressman Clyburn is already a highly respected member of the party. He will be advanced when he accumulates the votes to advance. To suggest that he is not advanced because of race is ludicrous. There is campaigning and persuasion and vote gathering to advance in leadership position. I wonder how many blacks the right will advance to leadership positions.
