Re: illinois is a corrupt police state
Why don't you list the other 12 states that have this same law?

Re: Illinois is a corrupt police state
Like Ohio is immune to wire-tapping laws. But the right-wingers there seem to think they can make their own laws or rules and be selective about it too. Apparently the video is fine, it's the audio that falls under the strict laws. Oh, and the law works both ways and was designed to hinder the use of wiretapping by law enforcement unjustly or without probable cause.
Last week, Rep. Steven Chabot (R-OH) banned ordinary citizens from bringing cameras into a town hall meeting — even having police confiscate cameras from citizens who dared to violate this rule. Bizarrely, Chabot still allowed reporters to bring in cameras and record the event.
Coincidentally, just four days after Chabot took this extraordinary measure to prevent embarrassing clips of him from appearing on YouTube, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit handed down an opinion saying citizens have a right to film police engaged in their official duties. The court’s reasoning, however, has very clear implications for Chabot’s camera ban:
Chabot might take some small comfort in the fact that he does not reside in the First Circuit — Ohio is part of the much more conservative Sixth Circuit — but Chabot should not expect the right-leaning judges on his home circuit court to bail him out. As the First Circuit notes, at least three other appeals courts and numerous trial courts agree with their holding that government officials cannot simply ban cameras.

No reason to be defensive or turn this into some political **bleep** for tat. Unless you favor police unrestrained by public oversight.

Re: Illinois is a corrupt police state
I've complained about that kind of stuff just as much as you have, maybe not necessarily here, but in public places and at political events too.
I couldn't get the video to open up and I think it's the case where the man had a audio recorder in his pocket(concealed) that was making the rounds early this year. Without consent because of concealment of the device, that is considered wiretapping, and it would be the same charge if I were to do the same thing to you. If it is that case where a man did that in a courtroom, his ignorance of the law and challenging a judge in her courtroom is just plain stupid on his part.
That case reminds me of the "free speech zones" that Bush used when he was around. Some folks got arrested in Wisconsin for holding up signs along the interstate because they weren't in the designated "free speech zone".

Re: Illinois is a corrupt police state
No reason? Why, then, did you say "corrupt police state"? Why didn't you say that Illinois and 11-12 other states deny taping police doing their job? How upset were you over the Patriot act?
