Krugman gave a glimpse into how much we needed when he said we should gear up to fight aliens just as we did to fight WW2. Not sure what % of GDP was used then. Also shows he believes all that is needed is spending, doesn't matter where the spending goes.

Since I'm permanently linked here with Krug anyway, a factual piece. While the consensus among academic economists doesn't matter to you, I'm sur- in fact it would be a contrary indicator, this is correct in the context that he wrotes.

FWIW, I am darn near a founding member of what Ambrose recently condescendingly referred to as the Austrian Internet Crowd. Unfortunately when faced with what I believe was imminent collapse, I was willing to take the lifeboat with the hope that some degree of reform could be achieved after the fact.

Obama will have to do without my vote for failure to break up the TBTFs following his election. Not that he exactly promised to.

But I can see how you guys are so convinced otherwise. I just googled "Krugman aliens" and got directed to every winger and thumper in the country with a blog or a column.

I'd forgotten about that "jump". But if enough folks will believe that somebody borrowed money to buy a house with the intention of going from simply poor to being bankrupt and furhter beholden and be clever enough to seek out an innocent, unwitting educated person at bank to pull it off on then I suppose they'll believe danged to near anything.
