Hobby's new name

Humpyfarm, quit peeing on my leg....my pants are getting wet. Go find a fire hydrant to pee  and hump on. You are a joke, Humpy.

If its so easy to succeed in grain farming, why are so many farmers on the verge of bankruptcy again? I have banker friends, and they are worried about some of their customers.

Re: reasons why Americans feel insecure

My folks helped me get into farming, there is no question.  At the risk of sounding like (Staci Appel here) but if you have kids, you help them all that you can.  I mean if I didn`t have kids my Wife and I would probably retire and travel in a Winnebago.  Most people that I meet think they are self made, but I know their pedigree, all farmers had help at sometime from someone.  There`s only one person that I know was selfmade and that was my Dad. he saved and bought his 1st farm and paid $90/acre and that was bought with money he saved.  I own the farm now and last year I spent $120/acre for seed.

What you`ve got to realize is people in this country inherit fortunes everyday and lose those fortunes.  People pick winning lottery numbers everyday and become rich and spend and lose it all in a year or 2.  I can show you one guy that come from a rich family that set him up farming, he was big in cattle had the first cattle confinment in the county, married a rich cattleman`s daughter...they could`ve retired on their honeymoon and wouldn`t have had a problem in their lives.  But they lost everything.  He went to the factory and died in a couple years and the wife had to take a job clerking at the Dollar Store.

My point is, parents help their kids and want a better life for them.  I think once society loses that sacrifice for their own kids that is a sign of a society in decline.  One of the planks of the communist manifesto is to "do away with inheritance".

There are farmers that the government helped, many in the 80`s taxpayer funded debt write-off got more from the government than I inherited from my folks.   The "direct payments" and such are capitalized into the land rent bids...yeah it helped me a little cause I own alotta land, but it didn`t make or wouldn`t have broke me without it.

With the "cheap" crop insurance...it`s been a flat out cost to me, the premiums that I pay are a contribution to the insurance industry that enables them to sell insurance to the fringe areas cheaper than without my contribution.  And the only thanks I get is the fringe plows up floodprone riverbottom and land in the shadow of the Badlands to put more corn on the market, lower prices for me.  Those on the fringe used to raise cattle on that ground and that economically and environmentally is the BEST use for it.  But cheap crop insurance has made it a part of the cornbelt.  I`m not complaining, if I lived there I`d probably do the same thing.  But that said, this is how the "game" is played and make no apologies for signing up for what the government feels is my reparations for my being a critical spoke in their cheap food wheel.

The US has the least expensive and safest food of anywhere on the planet.  US farmers are government subsidzed...the bigger you are, the BIGGER the check you get.   ....you connect the friggin` dots!

3020, its not whether Red or Ba are consetrvative or kraft is liberal. Its the fact that Red/BA complain about all the free stuff that poeple in this country recieve from govt while their govt guarantees are not a problem. We hear all the reasons its a small part of budget support and the usual cheap food policy.  They live under unbrella that we are to important to fail. but face it anyone could suceed with all the govt support provided.  When you as a farmer in grain production is guaranteed a income from your operation whether its thru  poor price, poor yeild  , weather problems  by crop ins program  that farmers don't even pay full premiums on.or the ins companies pay the losses on.

3020 is there any local business in you commuinty that have such guarantees  or govt backed ins to prevent failure.  .

No. But Mr. Kraft does. He shouldn't. I shouldn't. BA shouldn't. Red shouldn't. No one should. It's bad for the country. But it is OK if Mr. Kraft has a guaranteed income because he is a progressive. Progressives are suppose to have a guaranteed income. Conservatives are not. They are to guarantee the income of the progressive. That is the natural order of things. You would be happy if Red and BA were out of the farm program but it remained in place for the progressives. That my friend is the definition of hypocrite.

You are wasting your time....the little dog just wants to hump your leg and pee on your pants. Humpy is just a bitter guy that really has no agenda for change, just likes to get your attention.

If he really wanted change, he would support tea party initiatives that want to cut all govt waste and transfers.

Exactly right 3020, there should be no bigger supporter of Rand Paul and Ted Cruz than one Mr hobbyfarm, yet he voted twice for Obama Smiley Very Happy

Obama chastized congress for "not getting a farm bill passed"  Smiley Very Happy     I`ve supported Ron Paul, I`ve donated money to see both Rand Paul and Ted Cruz speak and I would vote for any or all of them if given the opportunity.  Yet they would all cut government strings on farm programs and Ethanol   ...how`s that for really putting my own skin in the game.   Yet hobby sits there with his Democrats that love farmers being government dependent.

Re: reasons why Americans feel insecure

Yeah you`re right. but I didn`t even address hobbyfarm, it`s just he throws up this ridiculous, hybrid socialism of his and if someone reads it without being responded to, someone unfamiliar with agriculture or in someway detached from life, they may fall for it.

The thing with these discussions, they have a long tail.  i was googling a few key words once and the results included a discussion on here.  Sometimes there may be 30 views, but if that message gets a year old it may have 400 views...I suppose people googling stumble upon our little discussions.  If just 1 person out of the 400 is actually inspired to think on their own, it`s all worth it.

Plus the therapeutic bennefits that i get in my rants   🙂

All you super patriotic, salt of the earth, soothsaying complaining conservatives have been carrying on about the end of the world as you love it since before I started paying attention to conservation BS and that was the day JFK was assassinated and some redneck said that it was about time and I'm 71 now. I really don't care what you think not what you think is right. You only think the right things are the things you like anyway. SO, why don't y'all ding a long rope and urinate up it!
