schnuurbart, an explanation

I don't support taxing the "rich" more for a common sense and logical reason.

You can never get enough money to satisfy those in government.  Taking more from the private sector hasn't reduced government spending.

During the Clinton years when supposedly all was sunshine and lollipops economically then president Clinton nixed any tax reduction because government he felt was better qualified to spend your money.

Too, when they can't get enough money from the "rich" they do 2 things.  First they redefine "rich" downward and second they raise all taxes.  Get a million from one "rich" guy or get 10 million from 10000 not rich guys, doesn't take long to see what an accountant will decide.

There's always somebody talking about the 90% tax of years ago as some panacea but history shows nobody paid that because there were what you'd call loopholes.  Not only that but years ago the top earners paid about 55% of the federal tax, today they pay about 70%.

Government recorded record tax collection of $1,683,537,000,000 in individual income taxes in fiscal 2018 and still ran a deficit.  The key is spending, not tax collection.  Yes the Republican congress was a failure and it's obvious that the new Democratic controlled house is going to show them how to really spend.  At some point we've got to quit looking at taking money from the private sector and quit believing that government can fix everything.

Government can do some things that private industry and individuals can do but private doesn't.  Our nation according to CNN there are 54,000 bridges in need of repair.  Our electrical grid is a hodgepodge and our border is a sieve, these are things that government should be doing to fix.  But they are focused on race, sex and global warming, things not needing immediate attention for one reason or another.

Probably nowhere where people have such immediate examples of what a robust government safety net has done for a small minority of their fellow citizens.

Others just make you "comfortable" and moonwalk on; or they just say that they don't know anything about what is asked.
