Re: Ft. Hood massacre reclassified as "workplace violence"
I forget. Did he shout "God is great" before he started shooting? Just because he was a Muslim doesn't necessarily make him a terrorist. He was in the army and he was on base and he did shoot soldiers so unless he identified himself as a militant member of Islam, I guess it would be workplace violence.

He didn't litter as the old Arlo Guthrie song says so how do you rehabilitate a murderer.

I asked puma boy if he shouted allah akbar or God is great before he started shooting because I don't remember reading that. He didn't answer. So what makes him a terrorist instead of a disgruntled soldier who also happened to be Muslim? Maybe you are smart enough to remember.

Can you show that. I can say "no, he didn't" with as much authority as you but I can't prove it. So, can you? If you can, I will agree that this is the wrong decision and he is a terrorist. Although, either way he is toast.

Re: Ft. Hood massacre reclassified as "workplace violence"
I would classify it as workplace violence because it did occur in the workplace. As opposed to happening on the streets of Tuscan in a public area.
AS to what his motives are it makes little difference. The postal worker that shoots up the post office is the same kind of work place violence. Targeting fellow employees pretty much defines that.
Bullying has had some discussing as of late and bullying in the workplace can happen as easily as in the shool yard both with unexpected results. I'm not trying to justify any violence but just note that improper dialogue between human beings can and do have catestrophic results.

So Don can I assume you agree with me that hate crime laws are silly and not needed?
I guess we don't dare call Hasan, the shooter a terrorist even though there are numerous emails where he repeatedly communicated with the radical US born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed in a US drone strike in Yemen in Sept. In one email Awlaki had declared Hasan a hero even before the shooting.
"Once, while presenting what was supposed to be a medical lecture to other psychiatrists, Hasan instead talked about Islam, and stated that non-believers would be sent to hell, decapitated, set on fire, and have burning oil poured down their throats."
Right before he started shooting Hasan stood up and yelled "Allahu Akbar," the Arab phrase for God is Great and a term commonly used by terrorists during their attacks. Hasan passed up repeated opportunities to kill civilians that day targeting only military personel.
It seems odd our government can based on intel gathered abroad make the determination that an American citizen living overseas is a terrorist who is a threat to our country and should be targeted for assination yet can't seem to come to the same conclusion about a US citizen living here.
