Thanks for post You are exactly right the Republicans which I assume is the red man wants all the money from the Democrat   and will not stop until they are done. I think it is the Republicans that are practising socialism by taking all rights away and the money to boot  So that cartoon is exactly there plan

The problem Wisconsin is having is a result of the Democrats kicking the can down the road for 2 years ago when it comes to state budgets.  The federal stimulus bill money was used to cover up the deficit the state faced during the last budget cycle and now the NEW governer 6 weeks into office is dealing with the disaster left behind by the Democrats who were I remind you voted out of office by the electorate.  We do have a democracy last time I checked and the way to protest is at the ballot box and that is what the people of Wisconsin did in November.  Now the Democrats and the unions don't want to abide by the election results and walk away from the problems they created and not do their jobs they were hired to do.  They should all have their pay withheld for the days they don't show up for work.

The unions will still have the right to collectively bargain when it comes to wages and benefits, what the bill puts an end to is the union dictating class room size, and things of that nature, that have nothing to do with educating the children, just more stupid regulations to raise costs for school districts, and take away local control over policy.  Since when did public employees need protection from the government via unions??  I thought it was the evil corporations that were the reason for their existence.  Government workers make more and have better benefits than any workers group out there, what is going on in Wisconsin is looking more and more like a situation where those receiving public money are sticking up those who are paying their salaries, being held hostage so to speak.

These protests will only work to galvanize the electorate to vote out the rest of the establishment (Democrats) that only want to protect their crony buddies in the unions.  It now appears the DNC is getting involved and making this a national issue.  This will work against them as well as the public is fed up with all the spending that has been occuring and the sweetheart pensions public employees receive.  This will end up being great for Republicans in 2012.

I agree with you that this is going to alter the landscape, but not so sure as dramticly as you do. There are still all sorts of people who are moderate and who bounce from party to party that are going to be spooked by much of what else is going to come with this latest GOP resurgence.  Not sure that many will digest it  entirely in terms of politics so much as they will culturally. But it does lean towards a significant continued advantage for the GOP.

Nonetheless, this situation has my aging Democratic cells quivering. It exposes an attitude that has been as easy for Democratic leadership to dismiss, very much in the very same way and manner  that Republican leadership has dismissed the possible effects that social and cultural radicalism always have in the end. 1994 didn't last.....and this new Palinism is a cracked vessel. But blind ideaology can break down any institution and there is a critical mass of institutional Democrats who don't see what is happening. Who have no frame of reference for it.

The Democrats weakness, surely for the present term, is more significant...more endemic. It's loaded heavy with a "petty bourgeoise" mass of people who feel that they are going to somehow continue to get paid for their loyalty and idealism. Among them are millions of dedicated and hard working public employees and educators. It's an insult to the best of them for conservatives to bundle them all together. But it's not so much their dedication or their performance that is the issue here. It's the stagnant state of our economy that is...particlularly our social economy. Which is why it's so painful to see so many of them in the dark as this general  depression progresses

I ran across this earlier written by an old school cold warrior, WASP,  from the "influential class" player.  It's exceedingly rational, I don't find myself agreeing with everything in it, but he gets to some of the guts of what we face if we don't fix some things. Sadly, he ignores, or maybe intentionally brushes off the crimes of the gangsters of big finance and of their accomplices in the apolitical govt. financial watchdog departments and agencies. But, generally, I found it to be good food for thought.

good link, and troubling food for thought. It echos what I posted a week or so ago about what alternatives we have in America, in the eral of Globalization, to deal with the  lowering of our wage scales, and our standard of living.

Door 1, Door 2, and Door 3 may not have a bright sunny sky behind any of them. Trying to avoid the one with the 13 story dropoff is what a pragmatic leader and movement is going to have to step up and do to avoid a total collapse of the American experiment.
