$800,000 Angus Bull
I have a cross breed of Angus Simmental, so take my comments with a grain of salt. But $800,000 paid for one bull that will go on to sire many bulls and dams, Angus it seems has already put too many eggs in the genetic basket the way it was. The dairy industry getting cookie cutter Holsteins has also.
This Elation, though is impressive, I must admit.
That announcement also quoted Schaff as saying, “Elation marks the reintroduction of the Emulation line to the beef industry.” He went on, “For decades, the Emulation line has led the industry for fertility, longevity, udder and feet quality—traits that are often overlooked by our industry but will be fundamentally important for the economic survival of cow-calf producers in the future.”
Looking at performance traits, as a calf, Elation posted a 205-day weight of 1,052 pounds and a 365-day weight of 1,601 pounds. Additionally, he ranks in the top percentages within the Angus breed for many expected progeny differences (EPDs).
Record $800,000 paid for Angus bull

SAV Elation 7899 fetched a record $800,000 at the Schaff Angus Valley Annual Production Sale Feb. 10.

Re: $800,000 Angus Bull
Well I don't know BA. I think sometimes breeder A pay $800,000 for breeder B's bull. Then next month breeder B pays $800,000 to breeder A for his bull. Makes good headlines. Be my luck he would hurt his hip jumping out of the trailer.

Re: $800,000 Angus Bull
3020, you sound like my Dad 🙂 I have a couple buddies that I lease bulls from and they are hillbillies in every way, but they are total savants when it comes to "such & such bull coming from such & such line" I get lost pretty quickly. Kind of like comparing 2 baseball pitchers being pretty much the same, but one earning $4 million and the other making $80 million...who knows the $4 million pitcher might be worth more in the money ball.
But now everyone will be clamoring to buy seamen from Elation at $50 a straw. Heck some boar pig seamen is $35 a dose, so that seems kind of cheap for a $800,000 bull. If Elation was a steer, he`d been finished out in under a year, that`s impressive, cause sometimes at a January Greentag sale there`ll be 600 lb feeders with Shrek ears that were born in February so they were almost a year old and only weigh 650 or so.

Re: $800,000 Angus Bull
Well BA......all I can say is your dad is a VERY wise man. LOL.
I had a neighbor who has since passed away but used to look like he was quite the deal. He would come into the KofC and finally get someone to bet $500 on the superbowl. He would then drive south east for 45 minutes to the town he came from and go into the KofC and get someone there to bet $500 on the other team. He didn't think about the fact many in both councils knew and talked to each other. Things like that is what makes life fun.

Re: $800,000 Angus Bull
Perhaps the upside is that he's deductible.
Soo double depreciate im using the accelerated scale.
800k is only 797k more than he's really worth.

Re: $800,000 Angus Bull
There's only about 10,000 bulls out there that are as good or better than the high price Spin bull.
And those are 1500 to $3000 kinda bulls.
Judging by the spin of all the supposed faults Angus has that the high price spin bull is going to supposedly fix...looks like its to late to fix a whole darn breed.
No liar here...I really don't like the emulation exts 1 dam bit anyway.
If they don't kill ya...then they'll hurt ya bad.
Definitely not farmer friendly cattle....which happens to be the most important trait. Mo.

Re: $800,000 Angus Bull
I think many "retired" farmers would prefer to go back to Hereford cattle since they`re gentle and won`t leave you in a pile like after Sarge works over Beetle Baily. You might not top the sale with Hereford, but your carcass will last longer. My Simm-Angus are gentle, yet not tame, however a cow with a calf in the barn, I don`t take chances.

Re: Good post on Herefords
Also Shorthorns seem gentle.
Kinda dual purpose ie milk em too.
Or just add some Jersey or Brown Swiss genetics to the mix.
