It is interesting that since the 4th. of July live cattle prices have decreased but stocker and feeder prices have held steady or gone higher.  I am wondering if the prices for calves are increasing in anticipation of a higher spring market when some of those cattle are likely to be finished, or if the lack of auctions over the 4th caused there to be more demand for a few weeks and stocker and feeder prices are likely to start decreasing soon.  

Unfortunately, the Holstein vs. Choice Steer price difference has widened.  Here is the comparison graph updated through July 19th.

Buy yourself a box of cortes for a record up thru year end... Say $60+cwt...

Now, if we could just get people to pay that price per ounce for a live bovine.  That would be about $24,273. for a 1350# bovine.  I would happily sell our cattle for that price.    There would be a downside though, as I would not be eating very much beef.

A bunch since mid Feb.  Broke a hip then for infection in it bout June.
