All the grain guys are wondering when the price of feed will cause rationing well it has happened. just like below where cih88 and I were talking about the heifer numbers we can now see that we are killing this cow herd. this is a huge number guys the week ending Dec. 4 had a one week kill total of 61,288 head!   That is huge!  over a year that would be 3.4 million head.  WOW can you say higer milk prices ahead?

Think about this Arti......  WHile there are bigger numbers for the weeks slaughter available in our recent past most if not all of those numbers came at a time of some form of CWT buyout!  What we have now is pure unadulterated culling by Dairyman.  And at the same time as milk prices are at historically high levels!  Good time to be a trucker at least you will be busy!

Maybe the weather in California will cause some production problems---a cattle feeder use to say when it was below freezing he had the same amount of concrete as everyone else--his business was very low tech although it weathered all markets--quite a fellow::

K I got lots of poor mans concrete in the winter!  THose Cali boys are sure getting it I would think it would be real hard on the cattle in those dirt lots.  SHould be a help. JR

For the last 2 years at the cattle auction I attend I've noticed all the beef heifers sold.  Some weeks heifers are 40% of the feeders sold.

NW a couple weeks ago the total slaughter for feeder animals was 43% heifers! you don't grow a cow herd with those kinda sell offs.

Beef cow slaughter will remain high ( for several reasons ).

Dairy cow slaughter numbers may stay high too...however that may not change the number of cows on the milk lines much.

Sexed semen and high burnup rates on the mega dairy / corporate dairy cows.

Alot of those having 70% to 80% hiefer calf crops now...thus enables higher cull / burnup rates too.

Theoretically the dairy industry should be able to cull almost HALF of their cow numbers annually now and not effect cow numbers on the milk lines.
