Re: Moved some Holsteins
Wow sorry 3020, some are predicting that colored cattle will be bringing that this summer 😞 So what is the deal, I hear Walmart didn`t want Holsteins, so it trickled down to the packers and a few quit messing with them altogether. It`ll maybe get straightened out after some pain they`ll make hamburger and not import crap from Australia so much.

Re: Moved some Holsteins
Story is Tyson was butchering Holstein and peddling it to Walmart as Angus. Walmart told them to shove their meat so Tyson quit killing Holsteins. Couple of other packers have also cut back on their kills. Now the Holsteins are backed up and too big. Just a mess. Suppose to be some foreign country was going to start buy Holstein and things would get back on track. That has yet to happen.

Re: Moved some Holsteins
Some decisions are difficult to make. Since the Holsteins were at 1500#, I think you did as well as you could.
The current Holstein market is truly discouraging. A couple of weeks ago, my dad and I visited with an individual in the cattle industry that believes there is some likelihood that packers will stop taking Holsteins entirely. I am hopeful that that likelihood is very low.
Despite an increase in live cattle prices over the last few weeks, Holstein prices have remained almost unchanged. Here is the Tama comparison graph thru March 8.
Edit: Spelling error.
