Prudue may not be ablel to win in Football but ,,
http://www.agriculture.com/news/livestock/heifer-retention-driving-herd-growth_3-ar32847
Thanks successfuk farming for tracking down some cattle cycke views. I have been tied up and way behind. Purdue's Chris Hurt views seem fitting, terrible droughts forced extra liquidation in the llast couple of yrs, OK, equals greater non fed / cow slaughter, then what ? heifer retention, even gradual , equals a lower supply to go on feed, feeder futures have been rising since may.
Imaginhe come late fall, with 4$ corn , and rising fats ?
We coudl be intoi it, bugtime.
More oveer teh weekend.

Breeding heifers being the easy part - keeping a herd together and finding young sustainable operators will be $64000 question that the " experts " don't have a clue on ---

FCV3 + 10$ in 2 months,, tepid. My contention is we are way short of feeder stock, with improving pastures over 12' 11', will start to see morr heifer retention, less cow liquidation.
and full bull mkt ahead.

And who is gonna pay the "bull" prices ahead? Consumers are tapped out! When you gonna start looking at both sides of the ledger?

contrary to popular belief, we still eat a lot of beef.
Yes granted maybe demand is changing as if finally the health movement is sinking in..
Who will pay IMO depends on how tight thinkgs get,
see the Atlantic
-5% in beed prod would be big.
We need a feresh demand curve
prices are inelastic shirt tem, elastic long term, the inbetwen where teh bull move will come from,
if I am right (rare!)

I find it interesting in having conversations with a few folks that " use to " order various items from Omaha Steaks ( a fine company) with the " costs " now making it a less frequent occasion ---

Omaha has nice adds but?
Taking a half from a local farmer beats all!
