Slipping Market?

I am noticing that many of the market reports that I have been looking at lately are showing dropping stocker cattle prices. Some as low as 500# steers for about 130cwt.

This week’s Livestock Weekly newspaper reported last week’s live cattle trade at 120cwt.

The spread between feeder cattle and live cattle seems to be way too close. There are two scenarios that might be causing this. First, people far smarter than I may be suspecting a significant drop in the live cattle market by the time the lower weight cattle would be ready for slaughter. Second, this is a great buying opportunity and will end as soon as the spring grazing fever starts.

Have you been seeing the same slip in market prices over the past couple of weeks?

Also, what are your thoughts on the current cattle market?

Re: Slipping Market?

Local buyer is predicting fat prices in the 75 to 80 cent range by late summer. Probably have to pay em to take Holsteins.

Re: Slipping Market?

I feel  much  more  optimistic  today -  grocery  store  has  ground  beef  on  special  for  $3.89 / lb.  and  it's  competitor  down  the  street  has N Y Strips  on  sale  for $12/ lb . ---

Re: Feeders been 2 high and folks that lost dough in 2016

just have to be carefull what they spend on replacements now.

It's Typical cattle cycle.

upside is fats gonna keep workin up............we exported bout 5,000,000 fats in the beef in 2016 And it just keeps on a tickin.  2016 exprted 12.56% more beef than 2015.

exports are very reminiscent of the 2014 record export year.
