Re: Tama Fat Cattle Sale,
Most of the market reports that I have seen this week have had a bearish feel to them, and this one is no exception; however, the cows at Tama did average higher this week than last week, so here is that graph.

Re: Tama Fat Cattle Sale,
What month is it you predict cattle to break through the $2.00 mark?

Re: Tama Fat Cattle Sale,
Cattle market is looking tough. Maybe big economic bounce and steak on every plate in USA and double stew in Pacific Rim but I'm not betting on it. Been a good run but top is in untill Donald or Hillary or whoevers term is over (MO). $120 fat cattle before any $200 or $300. Still money in $120 fats from breeder to feeder when numbers adjust. Time to hunker down.
BTW 3020 are you a JD fan? First tractor I farmed with, (summer job as teenager) was a 3020 back in the 70's. Turn around on the ends and have to steer with the brakes if you go up any slope. That's with a 4 row go-dig! Shirt off, no cab and trying to get any fender mounted radio station to come in. Good times. Graduated to a 4020 on the hiller. Still marvel at the patience that farmer had with me.

Re: Tama Fat Cattle Sale,
When I was a kid my dad had a WD45 and a JD B. He was in the market for a new tractor. He narrowed it down to an IH 706 or a JD 3020. The 706 was more horse power and just a little cheaper so that is what he bought. I was happy anyway because we had a new "big" tractor but I really wanted the 3020. My brother being 2 years older than me got to do most of the field work, when we were home from school. A few years later we were at a sale where they were selling a 6 year old 1965 3020. My dad said he should buy it so we could plow with two tractors. I was so nervous when they got to it I couldn't hardly watch. I thought my dad was bidding but wasn't sure. I wouldn't allow myself to get excited until the final bid and the auctioneer touched my dads stomach and said you just got the buy of the sale. That was back in the day before you had bidders numbers, you had to tell them your name. I was the happiest kid in the county. I remember it like yesterday. I spent many many of hours on it for years pulling a 3 bottom plow, four row cultivator and ground 1,000s of tons of feed. Still have the tractor and use it for daily chores. I will never sell it and now that I no longer have hogs and thinking of having it repainted. The only reason I haven't is because then it will no longer be original. Yes, I like green paint but most everything else has turned red over the years, much cheaper to buy, especially when you buy used.

Re: Tama Fat Cattle Sale,
Good story. Those old tractors have personality. That farmer I worked for sons still have "my" 3020. Hard to fall in love with the newer ones.
