Re: Still working on computer stuff here,
kind of a typical week so far for cattle.
futures off the limit,
packers are short bought cause they did not get much bought last week,
not enough fat cattle over the next 30 days available to supply the plants,
AND boxed / composite beef higher and pretty strong on the choice / select Both today.
Been getting quite a few cows bought here, 1 ranch is bringing a couple loads of pairs for this week....calves weigh 250 to 400 on em. be mostly black...mostly young cows too.

Re: Update, Market Questions
All of the cows made the trip just fine weekend before last. We had gotten 3.5 in. of rain by the time we got back with them which made it way too muddy to unload into the corrals. We had to unload the cows directly into the pasture, and have been working on catching them when they go into the corrals to get hay. We currently have a little more than half of them caught and ear tagged.
Interesting market insite, I assume that the lower supply would cause a price increase, or is the lower supply normal for this time of year?
Also, what do you think caused the limit down on Monday and the bearish week last week?
Finally, what do you expect the pairs to bring this week?
Steph

Re: Update, Market Questions
No offense, Steph, but that aint the purtiest Hereford I ever saw. With your touch she will be slicked out with a nice calf by next summer! Life is good.
Cattle market is tough. Keep your wits about you. Looked like a V bottom but the downtrend continuies. Cheap pork. Heavy feeder cattle. Volitile day to day but be willing to market on the ups.

Re: There's generally " over reach " in cattle futures now,
heck we're the New Age Pork Bellies Mortimer.
specs like this....there's days feeder cattle for instance can move $12 to $14 cwt per day.
basically the current $130 to $140cwt fat cattle are the trade range.
granted the afore is an "over reach" low...because you may notice the boxed and composite beef tends steady to higher most times.
packers got scared last week so are short bought now...they're either going to buy some or lay some folks off now.
could easy be a higher cash market towards the end of the week? The you guessed it...a day or so of limit up futures again.
When exports really rock again ( could be winter thru spring then on )...cash fats could "over reach" their upside by $40 to $50cwt thus in the $200 to $240cwt fat range.
Keep in mind fats index to the DOW.
we been lagging that index by bout 4000 basis pts of late.
last spring/early summer we exceeded the DOW index by 800 to 1000 pts.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO it's gonna be tough to defy the long term laws of averages for very long. MO

Re: Thank God, it appears she only has 1 horn. I'm
I saw that prize Hereford bull the Cartwrights had on a rerun of Bonanza the other day. Waist high to Hoss and just as wide. Had a nice set of horns too!
