The current Holstein discount on the latest market reports is surprising. I composed a graph compairing the average choice steer price with the average choice Holstein price for 2016 and the sharp divide appears to have occured in only the last few weeks. I am now wondering if the quality or quantity of the Holsteins that were sold on the Tama sale in the last few weeks was insufficient to command a strong price. It will be interesting to see if the sharp divide in prices continues to hold or returns to a more "normal" price spread.
