What are you guys going to feed?

     Hay,puchased,grow your own, or hillside trash that does not meet the criteria of good grass?

NE is a low priducting area relative to teh composite.

Great hay summer for cow/calf operations.

Record corn yields in PA nd other fear east states helps.

Our cows graze cornstalks for as long as they can get use of them, protein supplements will really stretch the stalks out if the weather cooperates.

From there, it is our own hay.   I balk at buying hay, we have done it a few times in the past, but it seems that about half the time, we wind up with some new weed we didn't know existed where we fed the cows.   Grinding the hay, and adding in corn to bring the feed value up, is mostly what we do.   We have enough 'good' hay for the protein needs, enough other stuff for filler, and a little corn adds energy, among other things.
