Winter was nice
Well, the winter has been pretty good until now. 2 bouts of thawing then freezing rain have really caused some problems with outside stored net wrapped round bales. Not only is the net wrap froze to the bales but the stacked up bales are froze to each other. I pick up 3 when I spear 1 on top of the other 2. There's going to be a lot of netwrap debis to pick up when it thaws and even more to cut off the beaters on the manure spreader. Has anyone else had unforeseen problems this winter?

Re: Winter was nice
Unfortunatly NW I foresaw all the problems and couldn't do a **bleep** thing about the!
Been real busy the past few days. When I went outside this morning it was -18! by the time I got done with chores just as the sun came up it was -24. Thats cold on the cow t i tties.
BTW when I started the Bobcat this morning I had to glow plug it 4 times but she did start! Haven't expeierienced haelth problems in the cattle yet.
I did have a motor go bad in the corn silage silo this week so I am waiting for that to get back to reinstall. It was only 65 feet off the ground.

Re: Winter was nice
Darn JR I never knew you had such foul weather out there. We haven't had cold like that since about 1983. We got some snow yesterday and should have plowed the yard and driveways but the blade is froze in about 4" of stone and water so I didn't even try to do it. Just looked at it and thought "that's never happened before. Picked up a round bale of straw the other day that the wrap had been ripped off and watched 534# of straw unroll in the barn galley way before my very eyes. My comments would have made a sailor proud.

NW the only thing between me and the polar ice cap is a few reindeer, and a bunch of minnisodans!

Re: Winter was nice
Gotcha JR Bobcat wouldn't start today at -4. Ran out of juice half way into the 4th glow plug cycle. It fired after the third cycle but quit. The booster charger spun it over like the starter never did. 2 hrs. on it moving bales and loading a trailer with bales for the auction about did me in. The cattle were out milling around like it was a fine day in May. I think they do better in the cold then in the heat of summer. I don't do well in either. Ha
