federally inspected vs state?

In our neighborhood a good family has been feeding beef and selling it at the farm for 30 + yrs. It is excellent. Now a newbie is selling his beef at the new local farm mkt.

Non Federally inspected can be sold at the farm but am I right, it can’t be transported off farm and then sold? Or is that just for animals over age 2?

Thanks

Re: federally inspected vs state?

Different states may have different laws on this, but here in SD, state inspected beef can be sold anywhere in the state--on farm or off.  To take the meat out-of-state, it must be federally inspected.
