Cold soils: Fools rush in?

[ Edited ]

Received an e-mail from a seed company agronomist (Alex Johnson, LG Seeds) this morning, reminding me of some basic agronomic facts, including that at 50° F corn takes 25 days to emerge, at 55-60° 10-14 days, and at 65-70° only 5-8 days.  He also noted that "the critical soil moisture for seed germination to occur is 30% for corn and 50% for soybeans."

From a practical standpoint this spring, how are you looking at these issues? Waiting longer than usual for a warm-up? Or taking a chance and moving ahead in cool conditions? Need to dry out, or receive more soil moisture? Just curious.... Thanks.
