102 Pods

Amanda the agronomist for our local CPS office found this when we did som pod counts today. Said she hadn't seen any plants over 31 pods today until she got here. Mose were in the 50 pod range, all had at least a few 4-bean pods. This plant was near a sprayer track and really took off. 102 pods.

Re: 102 Pods

I think I'm going to have to throw the bullchit flag here swohio !!!!!!!!!!  Lets see here -- for one thing - don't see any bean fields around - Alot of woods ? OR your topical garden = back yard ! And she just happen's to find this monster ?

Looks more like you and her was bullchiting from your patio and you showed her your prize plant that you won the County Fair with ! Smiley Happy

Re: 102 Pods

You are welcome to come help clean up some of this excess vegetation on the edge of the barnyard ECI.

BTW she did a corn sample while here and it was really disappointing. Came in about 130 bu/ac. Have you checked any of yours this week? I'm afraid 18 dry days in a row is clobbering this corn potential we had.

Re: 102 Pods

SWO : Just got back from train ride to Seattle and Boat ride to Alaska....did a train window crop tour on the way. In the "great State of Minn." going from Twin Cities North and a little West to St. Cloud and then pretty well West to Fargo most of the beans I saw were lucky to be 10.2 " tall !!! Did meet a fellow fron Ohio and he said corn was 12' tall and usually had 3 ears !!!!  I know , I know....was probably a tall tale !!!

Re: 102 Pods

JCC, where did you get on the train? Also you have to remember you are on the nort turn fringe of the soy/corn growing area on that train ride. That said most beans around here have barely canopied 30" rows. Saw some 20" rows barely canopied. And Homer Simpson could stay busy spraying aphids around here.

Re: 102 Pods

JCC there may be a lot of pods but we are at 19 days without a rain and the forecast is not promising. Hope the combine can catch all these bb's.

Re: 102 Pods

DFMN : You are right Mike , I knew I was on the edge of bean country. Had no idea that St Cloud area had such light soils.....lots of irragation rigs running as we rolled by in the early morning. Corn even under the rigs seemed short and any dry-land and corners were either chopped off or burning up. Best corn I saw was in North Dakota just after getting out of Fargo. Very uniform height [ not real tall , 6-7' ] ears looked to be forming well , some irrigated....some not.

Boarded AmTrac at Tomah , crossed the river at Lacrosse. Rail follows the river up to the Cities....so only saw the river bottom corn in that part of the ride. Some really good fields...some curling in the heat. Got back home to all the late June early July corn , 3-4 ' tall and trying to tassel in the heat. Very depressing to say the least !!   John
