Re: 2010 Yield Results
tassil_head,
Great photo. Thanks for letting us see the beautiful cornfields of southwestern Wisconsin. How much corn do you have left? Also, I think the quote of this 2010 U.S. Yield Harvest thread comes from the post that follows yours, "Beans outyielding corn", wow!
Anyway, great picture and keep them coming.

NC IA
I've taken out a 110 acre corn field that would normally go 190-200 bpa in NC IA. This year it didn't quite average 160 bpa. It was 102 - 105 day corn, moisture was 15.7 - 19.8. Test weight averaged 55 #. There were about 3 acres drown out on this piece, the rest is gently rolling with good drainage.
It really looked like 180 bpa corn going through the combine, but the ears were small and it just didn't fill up the bin.
Very disappointed.
Everyone in the area is saying the same. 170 is about the high that I have heard for a field average

Re: 2010 Yield Results
I have been out talking with many other farmers about yields and answers seem pretty consistant. Soybeans in this area are running in the 40 to 50 bushel range with a county average of about 40 bpa. Corn yields seem low for most here, ranging from 105 to125 bpa with a county average of about 130 bpa.

Central Illnois:
60 bushel soybeans harvested, over the weekend. Corn averages are in the 162-168 area. The corn conditions were just too dry, late in the season. The bean yields are looking pretty good.

Re: 2010 Yield Results
Central Illinois:
Just returned from a visit with a farmer near Cropsey, Illinois. He says he'll be lucky to have a 120 bu./acre farm average this year. The dry weather aborted the growth of a lot of his corn. He says the 'racehorse' varieties didn't do as well as the 'defensive' ones this year.
Also, a lot of farmers in this area that planted corn early have a lot of volunteer corn sprouting back up. Because of head-loss, and then a few rains, this corn is making some fields look like a chia-pet. I'll have pictures of this posted on the site this week, maybe even tomorrow.

Re: 2010 Yield Results
SE ND Richland Cty Finished !st quarter of soybeans it ran 41bu/a hauled to town. Last year the quarter next to it ran 44 same type of land. I"m a little disappointed as they looked better than last year. Seed size was small.

Re: 2010 Yield Results
Neighbor with land like mine is getting 180 bpa corn at 16.5%. He is happy as he thinks it is doing better than he expected. I'd say that is about the expected yield for this land, but if it were mine, it would be a bit less than last year.

Re: 2010 Yield Results
Just finished beans. 71 bpa whole farm average, best ever, 46 bpa last 2 years. Start corn Mon. Looks great from the road, but walking inside reveals smaller ears. Cautiously optimistic. 188 ave last year. At least it will be dry corn this year.
