2016 Plans
Is anyone planning to change their crop rotations this year? Maybe planting more or less corn/soybeans, or introducing a new crop into the rotation?

Re: 2016 Plans
Kacey, I'm thinking of planting more soybean acres and less corn acres. Although seed, fertilizer and fuel are coming down little by little, so I'm a little undecided. Soybean yields are a little more stable compared to corn in my area, if I could find a market for sorghum in southern Michigan or northern Indiana I would try raising some lol! One big shift I am noticing is all the non gmo crops being planted or being planned to plant. In my area we have a large chicken company that just switched all its chicken feed to non gmo. So they are paying a premium for non gmo grain. I normally purchase seed early, but this year I have been putting it off, I'm not sure how much corn I will plant next year and I'm trying to decide whether raising non gmo soybeans is for me or not. Like Buck, I too have thought about getting some cattle back on the farm.

Re: 2016 Plans
Thanks for the info. I've heard quite a bit about non-GMO soybeans lately. Sounds like the premium can really sweeten the deal.
