Across Iowa

Today, I flew from Iowa City in east central Iowa to Sioux Center in northwest Iowa.  Went west at 4500 feet, which starts out at about 3,500 feet above the ground and ends up about 3,000 feet up.  Saw the band of snow from west of Fort Dodge running west another 30-40 miles.  The ground is not white, but has more white than color.

Saw only a few rigs in the field.  Most of the field works seems to be done.  Saw one rig spreading lime.   Here and there, I saw some cattle in the stalks and some corn stover in large round bales.  A few fields showed some tiling, but I bet most of this ground has long since been tiled.

There sure are a lot of windmills in western Iowa.

It was interesting to see that most field work appears to be done.  We might get an early start next spring.

Re: Across Iowa

Yes, a T210M.  Flew west at about 155 knots TAS and started at around 125 knots ground speed.  Around Fort Dodge, the wind dropped and my ground speed went up to about 145 knots.  Coming back, the wind shifted to the right quarter and ground speed was about 175 knots at first, slowing to around 165 knots near Iowa City.  Landed just after dark.

Re: Across Iowa

Flew Sunday to a 100 miles north.  Lots of tiling going on.
