Another Corn Question

If I plant corn for grazing purposes, would it regrow after I mob grazed it?

Re: Another Corn Question

As with wheat, management is crucial if you're gonna graze corn. Corn's growing point is below ground until V5-6,

Meaning you should be safe till around v8.

Re: Another Corn Question

So you're saying it will offer potential to be grazed more than one time?

Re: Another Corn Question

Yes and no. See ohioline.OSU.edu/anr-fact/0011.HTML for a detailed explanation of what actually works best, pretty sure you'd lose a LOT of tonnage with early grazing still

Re: Another Corn Question

It doesn't regrow when deer eat it, at any time of the growing season.

Re: Another Corn Question

I would think if you mob grazed it early enough in the growing season that the growing point was still below the soil surface, that the hoof traffic would do enough damage to finish off most of what could have possibly grown back. I think if you plan on trying you will probably only get one feeding from it.  Patrick
