Re: Bacterial streak--- Corn

Try a X rather than a Z

Since it is a bacteria rather than a fungus....
Not antibiotic registered for field crops that I
Know of.

Sorry

You needed the corn crop to make up for the wheat.

Re: Bacterial streak--- Corn

Stewart's Wilt??  Seen any little black bugs around?

More common in sweet corn but apparently some varieties of commercial corn are susceptible.

Re: Bacterial streak--- Corn

Here is Iowa State's recent release as of 26 August.

It does look like GLS but is bacterial, so like Goss's Wilt.

Originally found in South Africa.  How did it get here?  Not much know about it yet.

Re: Bacterial streak--- Corn

Thanks Jim for posting that up -  I had samples pulled from one of my fields to be checked - But was only given limited info on what they were looking for -  now I know that they are seeing just how far it has spread to . ( If 's made it to Indiana )  I have heard that it seems to be found more so in irrigated corn -

and may effect some variety's more than others .

I read on Pro Farmer tour , that the yield check's in the irrigated corn was not as high as they thought it would be - Wonder if this is the reason ?

sw - Are you seeing it more in the fields with a humidifier or a varity ?

Re: Bacterial streak--- Corn

It is variety related in this area.  Rep. said pioneer has had it in two varieties for the last two years at the local research farm..

"Not bad enough to be a yield issue"

Sorry I been a little busy....  We had a person who used to contribute here occasionally show up with a son to help us through this harvest so I am getting a little more opportunity to read.......... Thank you bugeye... I believe that was his entry name....
