Big Data

All,

We've written a lot about "Big Data"--field data collected on yields, soil conditions, etc.

Have you ever made any field decisions based on data findings? Seems like there is a lot of technology out there, but still a little fuzzy on any actual field decisions made on it.

Best,

Re: Big Data

I think many farmers use variable rate fertilizer application but I don't know of any personally who make big decisions based on yield data.

Drainage people have always used what big data they had.

As far as aggregating topo maps, soil fertility, yields, etc., I am not hearing this.  I think it's too tough for the average farmer.

Re: Big Data

Jim,

I had wondered about that, if farmers were having trouble aggregating all that info. Thinking that if they are geared that way, they would probably have an agronomist/consultant specializing in this?

Re: Big Data

I don't know of any who hire an agronomist, but this isn't something that gets talked about at the coffee shop so I honestly don't know.
