Re: By counting full pods how do you calculate your yield on soybeans.

the old rule of thumb is 4 beans per square foot is a bushel per acre. This works out to 2904 beans per pound.  If you have smaller beans then you may wnat to use a bigger number ( at 3500 bens per pound the number should be 4.8) or if the benas are larger you may wan tto use a smaller number (at 2500 beans per pound the number is 3.44)  but then who knows how big they will be now?

(ave number of beans per pod)X(number of pods per square foot)/4= approxamate bushel per acre.

For what it is worth, I can do reasonably well with the standard formula estimating corn.

Never worth a darn on soys, other than if they have pods and the grass is green in the third and fourth weeks of August, it will be a good crop.

If you plant one bushel per acre and average 100 beans per plant, you should get 100 bushels per acre. If you contract those beans for $10 per bushel, you might be able to pay my discover bill.  *grins*

Re: By counting full pods how do you calculate your yield on soybeans.

The University of Kentucky uses this formula:

1.  Estimate plants per acre

2.  Estimate pods per plant

3.  Estimate seeds per pod (average is 2.5)

4.  Estimate seeds per pound

5.  Estimate bushels per acre (60 lbs/bushel)

Here are the tables and more explanation:

I can usually estimate my soybean yields within +/- 30 bushels per Acre.
